SUMMARY
– OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE 2012
During the year under review, Tanjung Manis
Integrated Port Sdn Bhd (TMP) continued its pivotal role in facilitating the
Sarawak central region ocean-borne international trade, amidst immense
challenges. Currently
TMP manages four (4) operation centers namely Tanjung Manis Port Terminal (TMP
Terminal), Oil Gas Chemical (OGC) Jetty, Tanjung Manis Anchorage and TMP
Inland Depot. TMP Terminal caters
mainly ocean-borne containerized trade, the OGC jetty handles Bulk Fuel Oil,
and the Tanjung Manis Anchorage handles timber logs, timber products and coal.
Whilst, the TMP Inland Depot handles coastal cargo and provides stuffing of
cargo into containers and transporting such containers via land or water to be
exported through connecting vessels to
TMP Main Terminal and Rajang Port
Authority.
In 2012, TMP handled 3,894,307 metric
tonnes of cargo, which when compared to the 1,162,706 metric tonnes in 2011
was an increase of 234.9%. Import and export increased by 370.4% and 2531.7%
respectively, whilst transshipment cargo increased by 65.0%. The sudden surge in volume in 2012 is
due to OGC jetty operations and the handling of timber logs, timber
products and coal at Tanjung Manis anchorages.

Overall throughput in container trade
rose from 60,854 Teus in 2011 to 93,459 Teus in 2012 representing a 53.6%
increase, contributed mainly by four (4) shipping lines. Similarly, vessel traffic increased by 39.3%
which was from 643 vessel calls in 2011 to 896 vessel calls in 2012. This increase in port operations can be
attributed largely to the favorable business environment prevailing in the
country.
Productivity
of gang assigned recorded 20 Teus per hour/net. The average berth occupancy per month is
54.3%. The average turnaround time and
service time for container vessel recorded 13.0 hours and 9.0 hours
respectively. Source: Corporate & Statistics Unit, TMP
